St. Petersburg Technical Fair 2016 ended successfully

On March 15-17, 2016, St. Petersburg hosted the St. Petersburg Technical Fair which is, according to Georgy Poltavchenko, Governor of St. Petersburg, is a “parade of innovative ideas”.

Over three days, more than 200 industrial and research organizations from Russia, Belarus, Hungary, Germany, Italy, China, Latvia, Taiwan, Finland and the Czech Republic introduced their latest products. During these days, more than 6000 experts from various industries visited the fair with an opportunity to watch metal-working machines and automation equipment in operation, and get acquainted with a wide range of fasteners and tools, innovative developments, etc.

Machine manufacture and metalworking were widely represented at the fair. Ferrostal company showed at its stand the latest machining centres from Germany, ASM-Service LLC presented its DATRON M8 Cube engraving machine, FinJet LLC entered with its innovative waterjet cutting system, KR Prom LLC showed a horizontal boring machine with the Russian-manufactured CNC, and Kovrov Electromechanical Plant OJSC introduced home-manufactured machines, and the Russian CNC system, etc.

In the metallurgical sector, experts paid special attention to Elektrostal plant and Ruspolimet company, leading positions within the industry. There was also special interest in Uralelektromed, with its experts demonstrating products made of copper powder and describing the hot-dip galvanizing services, OMZ-IZHORA TK LLC presenting non-reference testing procedures, and MSH TECHNO, introducing outer space simulation devices, as well as to the stand of Spetsmash company with its transport engineering products.

Delegates of the fastening industry also performed active work within the SPTF: Fixit Management Company announced the opening of Fix Northwest, its office in St. Petersburg, and MMK-METIZ Magnitogorsk Metalware and Calibration Plant presented new bolts to DIN standard, high strength fasteners and nail-screws.

Specialists showed great interest in the events of St. Petersburg Industrial Congress, which was attended by 1100 delegates i.e. government officials, representatives of industrial companies, industry and social agencies.

The welcome speech for the business programme was given by Maksim Meyksin, Chairman of the Committee for Industrial Policy and Innovation of St. Petersburg. “The platform of St. Petersburg Industrial Congress is a significant opportunity to discuss the key issues of industrial development,” said Mr Meyksin, and wished the participants a successful and memorable stay in St. Petersburg.

Traditionally during the St. Petersburg Technical Fair, the winners and prize-winners are announced of the prestigious “Best Innovative Project and the Best Scientific and Technical Development of the Year” competition, organized since 1998 as part of the “High Tech. Innovations. Investments” exhibition (HI-TECH).

This year, the authors of the best developments first received not only prizes, but also an opportunity to present their project at the INVESTODROM. INVESTODROM is a new platform for “mature” investment projects development and creation of the interactive investment and innovation environment, organized by the Interdepartmental Union of High-Tech Export and Import Substitution (IUHTEIS) and RESTEC® Exhibition Company.

INVESTODROM platform has provided investment agreements between Gotovye Resheniya LLC and Rocket Group, as well as between Messline Company LLC and Vikar Invest IC. Over 20 projects will continue their cooperation with UHTEIS and receive recommendations on projects structuring and search for investment.

The ceremony of awarding the winners of “Best Innovative Project and the Best Scientific and Technical Development of the Year” competition, which was the highlight of the last day of PTYA, included Svetlana Babakova, Head of the Investment Policy Department of the Committee for Industrial Policy and Innovations of St. Petersburg, Aleksandr Raspopin, Head of Directorate for Scientific and Industrial Events of RESTEC® Exhibition Company, Sergey Faleev, Chairman of the Expert Board of this competition.

In total, the jury had to consider 157 innovative projects. Special prizes were given to the two innovations of St. Petersburg Centre of Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Technology, as well as the innovations of the Belarusian National Technical University, National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University and Saint Petersburg State Polytechnic University of Peter the Great.

The main prize – Grand Prix – this time went to Novosibirsk. It was given to the Boreskov Institute of Catalysis and the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who were the co-authors of silicon dioxide airgel development.

As a result of INVESTODROM investment session and awards ceremony experts and invited guests noted that the “Best Innovative Project and the Best Scientific and Technical Development of the Year” competition is the sort of the event when participation is also important. All projects submitted to the competition prove that innovation activities succeed and the participating organizations are on the right path.

In parallel with SPTF, the Automechanika St. Petersburg fair, and PIAC/Autoprom Russia and “Promtech:“ ”Efficient Enterprise of the Future” conferences were held, as well as St. Petersburg Partneriat for SMEs.

Participants, visitors and guests of the events noted that despite the unstable economic conditions, the fair and the congress reserve their role of important events in the business calendar of industry representatives and participation in these events year on year confirms their significance and effectiveness.
